Frequently asked questions
For v4 the chance is astronomically small; you can treat them as unique.
UUID v4 versus v7
A UUID is a 128-bit identifier written as 32 hex digits. Version 4 is made of random bits, so collisions are practically impossible. Version 7 puts a millisecond timestamp first, so new values sort in creation order — which keeps database indexes efficient.
Values are created with your browser’s cryptographic random generator and never leave your device. Use them as database keys, request IDs or test data.
