Frequently asked questions
A URL without http:// or https:// is not a complete URL and cannot be parsed.
Anatomy of a URL
A URL like https://example.com:8080/path?a=1&b=2#top has a protocol (https), a host (example.com), an optional port (8080), a path (/path), a query string (?a=1&b=2) and a fragment (#top).
Parsing URLs by hand is error-prone, especially with encoded characters. This tool uses the browser’s built-in URL parser, so results match how real browsers and JavaScript code read the address.
