ROT13 Encoder / Decoder
Scramble or unscramble text with ROT13. The same operation both encodes and decodes, since rotating by 13 twice returns the original text.
How it works
- 1
Paste your text
Plain text or already-ROT13’d text.
- 2
Read the result
Every letter shifts 13 places through the alphabet.
- 3
Run it again to reverse
Applying ROT13 twice always gives back the original text.

Frequently asked questions
No, it offers zero real security — it is meant for hiding spoilers, not protecting data.
What ROT13 is (and isn’t) good for
ROT13 shifts every letter 13 positions through the alphabet, wrapping from Z back to A. Because the alphabet has 26 letters, applying the same shift twice returns the original text — one function does both directions.
It has no security value at all; it is trivial to reverse. It is traditionally used to hide spoilers, puzzle answers or punchlines in plain text, where the goal is just to stop a reader from seeing it by accident.
