How the due date is estimated
Pregnancy is usually counted as 40 weeks (280 days) from the first day of the last menstrual period, a method known as Naegele’s rule. For cycles longer or shorter than 28 days the date is shifted accordingly; from a known conception date, 266 days are added.
Only about 5% of babies arrive exactly on the due date, and an early ultrasound gives a more precise estimate. This calculator is for information only and does not replace prenatal care.
