Frequently asked questions
Choose “% change from X to Y”, enter the old value as X and the new value as Y.
The three percentage formulas
To find X% of Y, multiply Y by X and divide by 100: 20% of 150 is 30. To find what percent X is of Y, divide X by Y and multiply by 100: 30 is 20% of 150.
Percent change compares a new value with an old one: subtract the old value from the new, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. Going from 80 to 100 is a 25% increase, while going from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease — the base changes, so the percentages are not symmetrical.
