How GPA is calculated
Each letter grade is converted into points — A is 4.0, B is 3.0, C is 2.0, D is 1.0 and F is 0, with plus and minus grades in between. Every course’s points are multiplied by its credit hours, added up and divided by the total credits.
Weighting by credits means a four-credit course moves your GPA more than a one-credit elective. That is why the same set of grades can produce different GPAs depending on course load.
Schools use slightly different scales, especially for A+ and honours courses. Check your institution’s rules for the official figure.
